Hawaiian Bodywork

What is Ka Huna bodywork?

This is a beautiful form of bodywork which provides a holistic approach to healing by balancing the body-mind in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions. This style is strongly influenced by Kahu Abraham and Serge King. On a physical level Ka Huna works with the soft tissues and joints, as well as the lymphatic, circulatory, digestive and respiratory systems. Ka Huna bodywork facilitates the release of stuck emotions such as anger, fear, guilt, self-criticism, and traumatic memories, creating a shift toward deeper physical and emotional self-awareness, clarity, confidence and self-love.

Ka Huna bodywork is unique in many ways. The practitioner uses long flowing strokes of varying intensity and rhythm, up and down and all around the body, that can resemble the ebb and flow of waves on the sand. This is a deeply relaxing, whole-body massage which is nurturing, gentle, deep and very energising.

In Hawaiian tradition, prayer and cleansing precede any bodywork. Next, you will be asked to become attuned with your breath. Focusing on the breath helps quieten the mind, facilitates connection with your body, allowing you to be more present in this moment. Each inhalation provides an opportunity to draw fresh energy into the body, while each exhalation offers a chance to dissolve tension, let go of limiting beliefs, and deepen your experience of relaxation. Stretches, underbody work, prayer, sound and breathwork may all be incorporated into a session. No two sessions are ever the same.

Benefits of Ka Huna Bodywork

Ka Huna Bodywork Practitioner

Your therapist has been trained at Mette’s Institute – leading Ka Huna training school in Australia. The power of intention is an important aspect of Ka Huna massage and practitioners have been trained to be completely present and focused on their client throughout the massage and to hold the attitude of loving acceptance. This is known as the Aloha Spirit for which the Hawaiian Islands are famous.

Aloha also refers to a powerful way to resolve any problem, accomplish any goal, and to achieve any state of mind or body that you desire. In the Hawaiian language, aloha stands for much more than just “hello” or “goodbye” or “love.” Its deeper meaning is “the joyful (oha) sharing (alo) of life energy (ha) in the present (alo).”

Seven Principles of Huna Philosophy

IKE

The world is what you think it is – I am aware. Our ideas create our reality.

KALA

There are no limits – I am free.

MAKIA (mah-kee-ah)

Energy flows where attention goes – I am focused.

MANAWA

Now is the moment of power – be present.

ALOHA

To love is to be happy. Aloha is caring for others as much as for oneself. Aloha means a joyful sharing, not doing anything to harm or cause unhappiness to others.

MANA

All power comes from within – I am confident. Mana is the pure energy. According to Huna philosophy Mana is the name for the source of all the power that exists in the universe. Mana is universal and flows through humans, animals, plants, earth, sky, and the planet.

PONO

Be positive and do what works. If you gain the world but lose your soul, is that true success? Consider the personal, social and environmental aspects of any endeavour to determine how successful it is. So, whatever you are striving for, take time to reflect on how your ‘striving’ is affecting you, the people around you and the world around you.

OUR TREATMENTS

Lomi Lomi Hawaiian Bodywork

The word lomilomi comes from the Hawaiian and Samoan languages. Lomi means to knead – it is the smooth flow of strokes that mimic the waves of the ocean.

At My Eternal Spring we practice Heartworks Lomilomi as taught at Mette’s Institute.

Heartworks Lomilomi

Heartworks Lomilomi combines therapeutic massage with cultural practices to cleanse and restore the body, mind and spirit.

Heartworks Lomilomi facilitates an inward journey through connection with your breath. As the breath slows and deepens, the mind becomes quiet. The heart of lomilomi is in the touch – a connection of heart, hand and soul. The positive focus and nurturing touch of the therapist creates a feeling of openheartedness in both the giver and the receiver – allowing positive healing energy to flow.

This is a deeply meditative and restorative massage. Practitioners use palms in long flowing and rhythmic strokes along the body’s energy lines. The tissues are moved gently but firmly to break up adhesions and blockages – as if untangling fibres. Heated stones and Lomi sticks may also be used for deeper focus on pressure points. Ancient Hawaiian lomilomi practitioners used heated stones for placement or as an extension of the hands to massage the tissues. Stones were also used in combination with seawater, bringing in the four elements – stones for Earth, the heat of the stones for Fire, Water and the breath for Air.
